Family Law
Section
President: Allyson Russell Blair
The
Family Law Section of the Cobb County Bar Association was organized
to promote and maintain the highest level of excellence and
professionalism among Family Law practitioners in Cobb County. The
Section fosters a great degree of collegiality between the judges
and Family Law attorneys which extends beyond the social events and
into the courtrooms, mediation sessions and law offices of Cobb
County. The Family Law Section also promotes the continuing legal
education of its members by presenting a guest speaker or "hot
topic" discussion at each section meeting, and by sponsoring a full
day Family Law Seminar each December. In addition, community
involvement is an important focus of the Family Law Section; during
The Family Law Section continues to strive to maintain its
reputation for integrity and excellence within the legal community
and the Cobb County community. The Family Law Section holds its
meetings on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at La Famigila located
on the Marietta Square.
Criminal Defense Section
President: Phillip Holloway
The Criminal Defense
Section of the Cobb County Bar Association consists of approximately
80 members of the Cobb Bar Association. Our mission is to promote
the effective administration and practice of criminal defense law
and to foster a spirit of cooperation among the bench, prosecution
and defense bars for the purpose of advancing professionalism and
serving the ends of justice for the common good. Our meetings are
held on the last Wednesday of the month. We offer CLE luncheons,
open file luncheons to discuss pending issues in criminal defense,
and guest speakers.
Cobb County Trial
Lawyers
President: Jay Nohr
The Cobb County
Trial Lawyers Association ("CCTLA") is an active section of the Cobb
County Bar Association. The CCTLA is composed of members from
throughout the Cobb Bar, including those who emphasize both
plaintiff and defense trial work. It meets The Second Wednesday of
each month at the Marietta Conference Center at 12 noon, The restaurant is located
on the Marietta Square. usually with a luncheon speaker drawn from
the local judicial, legal or business community. At other times, the
section meets simply to socialize and allow busy section members to
get to know one another better. Beginning in 2001, the section
recognizes Cobb County's most outstanding judge with a "Tradition of
Excellence Award" at the annual Law day Award's Luncheon.
Elder Law Section
President:
The Cobb County Bar Association's Elder Law Committee provides
continuing education, interaction, and support for lawyers of all
ages who practice in any area comprising the filed of elder law
including:
- Probate Litigation;
- Estate Planning; and
- Social Security and other elder benefit programs,
By hosting informal monthly lunch meetings held the Second Tuesday
of Each month at La Famigila located on the Marietta Square; 12:00 noon with guest speakers,
information exchange, and socialization as well as an annual CLE
through the Cobb County Bar Association.
Younger Lawyer's Division
President: Darrell Sutton
The Cobb County Bar Association's Young Lawyers Section is an
organization comprised mostly of attorneys 35 years old and younger
who seek not only to better their community, but to also become a
part of their community. One of the functions of the Cobb County
Young Lawyers Section is to provide various charitable services to
the community by way of volunteer efforts of its members.
Specifically, the Cobb County Young Lawyers Section sponsors the
Great Day of Service in conjunction with Law Day in the spring of
each year. Also, the Cobb County Young Lawyers Section gathers at
various times throughout the year to enjoy the company of other
young lawyers and more seasoned members of the Cobb Bar who support
the organization. This organization presents a wonderful opportunity
to younger lawyers to get involved at the local level and to use as
a stepping stone to leadership positions locally and statewide.
Sole Practitioner/Small Firm Section
President: John Lyle
The Sole Practitioner/Small Firm
Section’s primary purpose is the exchange useful tips, information,
and contacts regarding law office management, ethics and
professionalism, and business/administration of a law practice. The
section holds monthly lunch meetings at noon on the fourth Thursday
of each month at the House of Lu, on Cherokee Street behind the
Strand Theatre on the Square. Whenever possible, lunch meetings are
